Vision

As a multidisciplinary artist, Mariam envisions a world where creativity and play are essential for personal and professional growth. As an artist, storyteller, and educator, she is dedicated to sparking curiosity, building meaningful relationships, and encouraging self-expression. She believes that art and storytelling have the power to bring people closer and deepen our understanding of one another.

About

Her journey began in Pakistan, where she noticed a lack of spaces for open, creative expression and a limited focus on arts education. This led her to create Spoken Stage as her undergraduate thesis, a platform rooted in storytelling, art, and performance, committed to creative freedom and play. What started locally has grown into a broader mission to encourage imaginative expression and amplify diverse voices.

Alongside this work, Mariam co-founded Mano Animation Studios, where she worked as Art Director, Associate Producer, and Assistant Director on The Glassworker, Pakistan’s first hand-drawn animated feature film. The experience deepened her love of visual storytelling and continues to shape her multidisciplinary practice.

Drawing on her background as a Pakistani American artist, Mariam later pursued an MFA in Theater Education from Emerson College, expanding her work as a creative educator, writer, and filmmaker. Based between New York City and Karachi, she explores themes of identity, culture, the body, and self-expression through film, writing, voice, and community-centered workshops, inviting people to reconnect with their imaginative selves and reminding them that play is essential to creativity and connection.

Mariam R. Paracha is an art director, writer, filmmaker, and creative mentor dedicated to the transformative power of creativity. Working at the intersection of storytelling, design, and performance, she champions freedom of expression, imagination, and innovative thinking. Her work spans animation, film, and community-centered workshops, and she is committed to helping others unlock their creative potential. Working between Karachi and New York City, Mariam likes to create spaces where art, identity, and expression can come alive.

I’ve attended several of Mariam’s performances, and each time, I walk away inspired. Her storytelling is powerful, and her ability to connect with the audience is remarkable. Whether it’s a spoken word piece or a live performance, Mariam’s authenticity and passion shine through in everything she does.
